
A couple of weeks ago, I had the privilege of speaking at The Institute of Internal Communication’s annual festival, where this year’s IC Index was officially launched.
One statistic stood out above all others:
Trust in leadership has fallen by 9% in the past year.
Even more concerning, only 49% of employees feel safe sharing their opinions at work without fear of negative consequences.
That matters because people experience leadership emotionally before they evaluate it rationally.
Employees rarely go above and beyond for hierarchy alone. Compliance creates minimum effort. Connection inspires discretionary effort.
