25 Lessons – Lesson 18: Surround Yourself with Sounding Boards

Even in the areas you identify as your strengths (maybe even more so in some cases), you won’t get things completely right all the time. While you can’t use perfectionism as an excuse for prevarication (see Lesson 3), it’s helpful to have people you trust and feel comfortable approaching for a second opinion.

Know who you trust on particular subjects or who excels in specific skills. Develop the relationship with them so they are happy to give you their time and perspective at key points where it will make a difference.

In fact, they will often enjoy giving you their thoughts. We like to feel valued and appreciated. They may also look to you as their personal sounding board—it’s something that can be reciprocated or paid forward as appropriate.
