25 Lessons – Lesson 15: Play to your Strengths

However good you are at certain aspects of your job or your business, I simply don’t believe that you can achieve your absolute best if you try to do everything on your own.

We all have areas of work at which we excel and which we feel comfortable delivering, and others that are a challenge to even do to a basic level. Surely we are better off focusing on playing to our strengths and finding others who can help us with the areas where we struggle.

This does not just relate to delivery but to professional development too. Seek training to help you become even better where you excel, rather than investing your time and energy where you’re simply not going to get a return. There are some exceptions, every business owner needs to have a handle on their accounts, for example, but they don’t need to master the topic, just understand it well enough to know what is going on.

Strong networks play a key role in helping you to deliver to your strengths. Surrounding yourself with people who are passionate where you are agnostic and who are skilled where you are amateurish, allows you to deliver to your absolutely highest level.
