Good intentions are one thing but they often fall by the wayside when it comes to putting new ideas and commitments into practice.
A strong mentor or mastermind group should be there not just to point you in the right direction but also to keep you on course and encourage you to keep going. Accountability for commitments made in previous sessions should be part of every agenda.
Appreciation
Please don’t take your supporters for granted. If people give you useful ideas, make them feel good by sharing what you have done and how it has worked out. Even if you don’t agree with the advice offered, show your appreciation for their care in offering it.
Appreciation doesn’t always have to be in a tangible form, such as remuneration, gifts and cards. Although there are times when that is appropriate or just a nice thing to do. A simple ‘thank you’, ongoing feedback and your support for them often carry more value.
We may like to think we can do it all on our own but we can always benefit from the assistance of others.
If you want to support others pay attention to what they say, what they ask for and how they act. Often people won’t just tell you when they need your support, you need to be aware of the signs.
It is down to you to decide what action you want to take based on the advice you are given. But once you have identified an idea you should explore or implement, make sure that you take the appropriate actions.
People can only help you if they understand exactly what your challenge is and what support you are looking for. Paint a very clear picture for them of the question you are posing.
You need people who are not like you in your support circles. If you surround yourself with people who have similar backgrounds, experience and expertise or who work in the same industry, you’ll be offered the same ideas and solutions time and again.
